Privacy policy
Updated 21 October 2026.
Dictionary provides an offline English dictionary and a personal library of saved meanings, source sentences, collections and review progress.
Your dictionary and library
Dictionary searches, definitions and usage guides work on your device. The app does not send your search terms, saved sentences, photos, collections or review answers to advertising or analytics services. Your personal library is stored locally. You can edit or delete its records and export a backup from Settings. Files that you export are handled by the destination you choose.
Optional iCloud sync
Sync is off until you enable it. If enabled, your saved meanings, sentences, collections and review progress are synchronized through your private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit service. Dictionary source files and imported photos are not uploaded by this sync. Apple operates iCloud under its own privacy policy. Signing out or turning sync off does not automatically delete previously synchronized data.
Photos and pronunciation
You choose the photos or screenshots to open. Apple's Vision framework recognizes their text on the device. Dictionary does not upload those photos for recognition. Pronunciation uses bundled audio where available and Apple's installed speech voices otherwise.
Purchases
Apple processes purchases and subscriptions through the App Store. Dictionary reads verified StoreKit purchase records to determine Pro access, including renewals, refunds, expiration and Apple's billing grace status. Dictionary does not receive your payment card details. Restore purchases requests your App Store purchase history through StoreKit. Manage subscriptions in your App Store account.
Advertising
Free use may include a small Google AdMob banner on the search screen after the introductory period. Pro removes it. Dictionary does not use interstitial, rewarded, app-open or video ads. Google may process technical information such as IP address, device and app information, ad interactions and diagnostic data to deliver and measure advertising and prevent fraud. Dictionary disables ad personalization and Google's publisher first-party identifier and does not request Apple's tracking permission. These choices do not mean that an ad provider processes no information.
Before requesting ads, Dictionary uses Google's User Messaging Platform to obtain the current consent state and display the choices required for your region. Where required, you can reopen Advertising privacy choices in Settings. A missing or failed advertising/consent request does not block dictionary use. You can hide a banner for the rest of the current app session.

Optional usage analytics and crash reports
Sharing is off by default. You can turn Share usage & crash reports on or off in Settings. If you enable it, Google Analytics for Firebase measures basic events such as app sessions, the main tab you open and opening the Pro screen. Firebase Crashlytics collects crash stack traces, app and operating-system versions, device characteristics and installation identifiers to help diagnose failures. Google may process technical network information, including IP addresses, when receiving these reports. We do not attach your name, email, search terms, source URLs, saved words, sentences, photos, collection names or review answers to these events or reports.
Dictionary uses the Analytics Core library without advertising identity support, disables vendor identifier collection and denies Analytics ad storage, ad user data and ad personalization. Usage analytics and crash reporting are separate from advertising consent and do not unlock Pro or affect dictionary access. Turning sharing off stops new collection, resets the local Analytics identifier and asks Crashlytics to delete unsent reports. It does not automatically delete reports already delivered to Google. Firebase's handling of diagnostic and usage data is described at https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Local introductory periods
Dictionary stores the date of first use and a counter capped at 10 dictionary opens to provide the introductory ad-free period. It stores a single start date for the optional seven-day extra saving allowance. These preferences stay local, are separate from paid access, and are not sent as advertising keywords or added to library exports.
Website privacy
This website adds no advertising, analytics scripts, cookies or browser storage. Cloudflare hosts the website and may process technical request information, including IP addresses and request logs, to deliver and secure it. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
