Terms of use

App software and purchases

The Dictionary app software is licensed under Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/ . App Store purchases and subscriptions remain subject to Apple's applicable terms and the purchase information shown before purchase. Pro pays for app features and services; it does not buy exclusive rights to openly licensed dictionary material.

Dictionary data has its own licenses

English Wiktionary contributors' dictionary text and our adaptations of that text are offered under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/ . To the extent MiniLabs holds copyright or database rights in its contributions to this edition's dictionary data, including teaching notes, original illustrative examples, ordering and practice text, MiniLabs offers those contributions under that same license. This grant does not claim copyright where none exists and does not relicense separately credited third-party works.

You may copy, extract, share and adapt the covered data, including commercially, subject to its license: retain applicable attribution and license information, identify changes, and apply the required share-alike license to adaptations. These rights apply to the covered data whether obtained from the app or the separate data distribution. They do not depend on a Pro purchase, registration or continued use of the app. Rights that do not require permission are unaffected.

Additional permission and precedence for licensed material

MiniLabs does not impose app-software restrictions on licensed dictionary material where they would restrict rights granted by its applicable license. In particular, MiniLabs permits copying, redistribution, modification and decoding of the covered data as that license allows. No app-only, device-only, noncommercial or no-derivatives limitation is added to that material. The applicable content license and these permissions govern that material in preference to a conflicting restriction asserted by MiniLabs. This is a content-license notice and additional permission from the provider; it does not replace Apple's Standard EULA for the app software, amend Apple's own agreements, or waive mandatory consumer rights.

Separately credited material

Retained source examples keep their own record-level rights, credits and source links. PLOS journal material uses the license identified for each matched article; the DNA Science excerpt uses its separate PLOS Sites notice, without an inferred license version. The matched VOA lesson excerpt follows VOA's reuse policy. The data collection's CC BY-SA license does not override these separate terms. Sources & licenses and the downloadable notices identify them. MiniLabs does not endorse or imply endorsement by these authors or publishers.

Independent data access

The edition's data, license notices, source credits, checksums and decoding instructions are available at https://dictionary.minilabs.app/en/data/ without an account or app purchase. The files use ordinary SQLite, JSON and standard compression, without a license key or DRM. The data distribution is independent of the App Store app. It includes the selected dictionary data and current editorial layers, not withheld source archives, personal libraries, account configuration, app binaries, branding or generated audio. The small download and decoding helpers have their own accompanying MIT notice; this does not license the app source code.

Your content and remaining rights

Your saved sentences, photos, notes and private library are not part of the public dictionary distribution. These terms do not transfer ownership of your content. Privacy and optional iCloud handling are explained at https://dictionary.minilabs.app/en/privacy/ . App software, artwork, trademarks and generated audio are outside the dictionary-data license unless separately stated. No accuracy or fitness guarantee is added for dictionary data; applicable license disclaimers and mandatory law remain in effect. Contact hello@minilabs.app about licensing or access problems.
